SAL and the Sacramento Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Detail (SED) attended the Junior League of Sacramento's Touch a Truck event. The event allowed kids and their families to see specialty vehicles from different jobs throughout the community and learn about their daily operations. The Junior League of Sacramento empowers girls to be confident leaders through programming centered on self-esteem, character development, and educational achievement. |

SAL took students from the Florin High School Panthers Basketball team to a Kings game thanks to the generous donation from California Police Youth Charities. SAL with the help from our community partners are investing in our youth! |

SAL partnered with the Sheriff's Toy Project and the Sacramento Superior Court to provide additional support and resources during their recent adoption day. SAL gave each kid a teddy bear and certificate to make this a special day they will never forget. |
|
|
SAL along with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office collected turkeys from the community. Over 200 turkeys were donated to be later distributed to families in the Sacramento area. A big thank you to KNCI for attending the event with us and broadcasting information on the radio and to Raising Cane's for attending and providing a delicious lunch to volunteers. |

SAL distributed hundreds of turkeys and food boxes to families in South Sacramento so everyone can have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Special thanks to Wilton Rancheria, Raleys, Boys and Girls Club of Sacramento, Sacramento Food Bank, Raising Canes, Starbucks, Sacramento County Sheriff's Office and Florin High School Law Academy for their generous donations and volunteers to make this all possible. |

2023 International Law Enforcement Torch Run Conference |

SAL Program Director Sgt. Sam Flores attended the 2023 International Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) Conference in Chicago. Since it's inception in 1981 in Wichita, Kansas the LETR has raised over 1 billion dollars! SAL is committed to raising awareness and supporting the Special Olympics athletes. |

SAL deputies along with the Sheriff's Toy Project held a Toy Drive to collect toys for families and children in need. Hundreds of toys were collected and will be provided to families within Sacramento County during the holiday season. A big thank you to the volunteers from Florin High School Law Academy, Sacramento Young Marines, and the Youth Leadership Academy for all their hard work at the event! |

SAL Deputy Briggs continues to visit youth at group homes, making meaningful connections with them. He was able to show them the YSU Camaro lit up at night. |

SAL deputy Michael Wojnar graduated from the Sacramento Sheriff's Leadership Program. Deputy Wojnar completed the three month seminar which included the following topics: Transformational leadership, Everyday leadership, communication and choice, mentorship, leading through purpose and passion, competance and character, leadership and self-deception, leading through introspection and extreme ownership. |

Discovery Challenge Academy is a 5 ½ month live-in facility for 16-19 year old students who are behind in school. It enables them to earn up to 65 units of high school credits. The average jump in math and English is about two grade levels. While youth are in the program we assist them in making this life changing decision to help further their success. |
|
|
DCA fall class has two S.H.O.C.K. youth in attendance. Their S.H.O.C.K. mentors have stepped up to follow them through this journey. We are over the moon that both of them are thriving. |

Supervising Deputy Attorney Karli Eisenberg spoke to the senior FLA class on November 1st, prior to their field trip to the 3rd District Court of Appeals. FLA students engaged in a Q&A with Mrs. Eisenberg as they discussed the possible cases that would be heard by the Appeals Justices later in the month. FLA would like to give a huge thank you to Mrs. Eisenberg for assisting in preparing them for their trip to the courthouse. |

Chick Fil-A on Madison Avenue continues to assist the Florin Law Academy by providing chicken sandwiches for the Florin High School Food Fair. FLA is able to raise funds for college field trips while also providing students of Florin High School with a great lunch due to Chick Fil-A’s support |

Every week, FLA students wear their Law Academy shirts. Three lucky seniors received an additional reward (courtesy of the Sheriff’s Toy Project) when they wore their law shirts on November 7th. |
|
|
FLA Juniors met with their mentors both in person and via zoom on Tuesday, November 7th. Mentors and mentees reflected on the conclusion of the first quarter of school, upcoming volunteer events, holiday break plans and how to put together an effective resume. On behalf of FLA, SAL Deputy Hauck, would like to thank every mentor and business who continues to support FLA’s Junior class mentorship program. |

In addition to participating in their mentor meetings, FLA juniors began their first leadership development workshop with Ms. Cindy Land Garcia. FLA juniors will continue to develop their leadership skills throughout the year. In May, FLA juniors will apply for one of six Land Garcia Foundation Leadership Scholarships to assist them in affording the cost of higher education. |

Tuesday, November 14th was a busy day for FLA. SAL Deputy Hauck, SSO VIP Mr. Garcia and the senior class started their morning at the 3rd District Court of Appeals. Students were afforded the opportunity to hear arguments pertaining to a case which was before the Appellate court. In addition, FLA seniors participated in a Q& A with the three court justices after the hearing. As the FLA seniors enjoyed their lunch in Capitol Park, they were greeted by the SPD Mounted Unit. Lastly, FHS Alumni and Principal Reading Clerk, David Bowman, spoke to the students in a committee meeting room about the State Legislature. |

To round out a busy day, the entire FLA family (sophomores, juniors and seniors) gathered in classroom B2 for their annual Friendsgiving dinner. SAL Deputy Hauck organized the potluck while Mr. Garcia played karaoke tunes for the students to sing along with. |
|
|
FLA students assisted SAL in distributing over 200 turkeys and hundreds of pounds of food to families in need at the Boys and Girls Club of Sacramento. FLA juniors Jotham and Chelsea had fun dressing up in turkey costumes and greeting families. FLA junior Kayley handed out the Thanksgiving card she created on behalf of FLA and SAL to all the vehicles who drove through the event. |

On November 27th, Sergeant Wells stopped by B2 and spoke to the FLA senior class. Students participated in a Q&A about law enforcement, overcoming negative environmental factors and how to strive to be the best versions of themselves. Sergeant Wells graciously gave out In-n-Out gift cards to students who were actively engaged throughout the presentation. |

The Young Marines came out and volunteered their time to help with the Toy Drive. They talked to members in the community about why they were there and were able to get many toys and bikes donated for needy families and children in the Sacramento community. They always do a great job! |
